Musical Delicacies

— Early Music Concert Series —

Musical Sweets

Musical sweets are concerts for children as a counterpart to the concert series of early music called Musical Delicies. They are organized by ourselves or jointly with various partners and cover a wide range of programmes for children of different age groups, — some for children and their parents, others primarily for school classes. The entertaining (yet educative) programmes acquaint the children with the musical heritage of the 16th to 18th centuries and brings them various surprises.

Early music for young listeners

The recorder player Jan and the lutenist Jan present their instruments and the music of the Renaissance and Baroque to the children in an entertaining way. The children participate actively in the music making, in competitions and dances. Video projections put them into the various environments where the music could be heard in times long past.

About the video:

With Orpheus and the shepherds to baroque music

Report from a workshop for children, organized by the National Theater Brno in cooperation with Musical delicacies assoc. The workshop preceded an evening concert with Cappella Mariana, featuring music from Claudio Monteverdi’s 5th Madrigal Book.

About the video:

Tele–man — for children and families

In this 50-minute performance, the audience becomes familiar with Baroque musical instruments such as recorders and flutes, lutes and the cello. The children sing several songs together with the musicians and play small percussion instruments. The programme is based on compositions by G. P. Telemann and A. Vivaldi — and these masters may come in person! But why is it called Tele–man? Come, you’ll find out…

We have prepared two versions of this programme, for children 5–8 and 9–12 years old.

Masked ball in the castle

Music, drama and art oriented workshop — conceived for children 5–12 years old.

The programme introduces the children to the musical culture of a castle, with ancient scores and historical music instruments, which they also will have an opportunity to play. Another part of the programme takes the children to a “masque” of the 18th century, for which they make their own masks and learn to dance the minuet.

The program was prepared by Hudební lahůdky assoc. in cooperation with the Department of Music History and the Children’s Museum of the Moravian Museum. An accompanying event to the Moravian Museum’s exhibition Musica Magni and part of the project Journeys to the musical past.
