About the programme

This programme presents a cross-section of the history of the fantasia in England from the mid 16th to the end of the 17th century. The genre fantasia meant originally simply a freely composed piece of music (without text, without a cantus firmus), but it evolved into a uniquely English style, the fantasia suite: A sombre, darkish fantasia that gradually develops into a display of virtuosity, followed by two embellished dance movements. The motto of this genre could aptly be described as from darkness into the light, matching the spirit of the Lenten period.

Recurring Company

Recurring Company was founded in 2014 by the harpsichordist Fanni Edőcs. It specializes on pre-Baroque and Baroque music in cross-fertilisation with contemporary music. The trio won the shared second prize (no first prize given) in the international Early Music competition La Stravaganza in Cluj-Napoca (Romania) in May 2017, live recording (13 minutes) here:

Dóra Haraszti.

Dóra Haraszti

Dóra Haraszti was born in Szeged, Hungary. From the early childhood she learned music, performing arts and dance. She graduated in recorder and Early Music from the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig (Anna Januj, Antje Hensel). and visited numerous courses and masterclasses (Pierre Hamon, Han Tol, Anneke Boeke, Peter Holtslag, Bolette Roed, Davide Monti). Her perception of voice and resonance was shaped by Katharina Felice (StimmEnergetics, Berlin).

Dóra teaches recorder privately and in a music school in Budapest. For the last two years she accompanied groups of handicapped persons within the framework of the "ArtMan Association" [ http://artman.hu/ ] for dance therapy.

She is co-founder of the ensembles Sospiratem (Leipzig), performing medieval and renaissance music, Olivastro Recorder Consort (Budapest), dedicated to the music of the 14th–16th centuries, and Recurring Company. She cooperates with contemporary dancers such as Heléna Hrotkó, improvising and exploring the boundaries between music and movement, performance and ritual. She performs with with her brother Ádám Haraszti (jazz percussion) as duo and in other combinations.

Júlia Regős

Júlia Regős was born in Budapest. She started learning the cello at age seven, it remained her main instrument throughout school and later at the Weiner Leó conservatory. At age elevent she joined the Schola Hungarica choir conducted by László Dobszay and Janka Szendrey and sung with the choir for more than a decade until it dissolved after Dobszay’s death. The deep exposure to early music and the various styles of Gregorian chant which she enjoyed in this internationally renowned choir shaped her musically and eventually made her view the music as her vocation.

Júlia studied pedagogics in Budapest. She was introduced to the viola da gamba through Sándor Szászvárosi who became her teacher. In 2007 they jointly founded the Custos Viol Consort which performs in Hungary and abroad. Since 2009 she is solo gambist in the Orfeo Orchester conducted by György Vashegyi. Júlia joined Recurring Company in 2017.

Fanni Edőcs.

Fanni Edőcs

Fanni Edőcs was born into a musical family in Budapest. She discovered the harpsichord at the age of fourteen. In 2004, she won the second prize, then two years later the first prize of the National Harpsichord Competition.

She studied at the Liszt Academy, Budapest (class of Anikó Horváth, János Sebestyén and Ágnes Ratkó) and graduated with an “Excellent” master diploma in 2014. A scholarship to study with Nicholas Parle at Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig inspired and formed her playing. She also attended summer academies and masterclasses with professors such as Gordon Murray, Bernhard Klapprott, Ketil Haugsand, Pierre Hantai, etc.

She performs regularly as a continuo player in different ensembles (Les Jardin des Arts, Budapest Bach Consort, Musica Profana) in Hungary and abroad. As she would like to remain always open towards new experiences, Fanni likes to contribute in alternative musical groups and projects. In 2014, she founded the Budapest based Recurring Company.
