{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna

{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna was founded in 2012 in Katowice by a group of instrumentalists, — enthusiasts and lovers of early music, gathered around the concert master Martyna Pastuszka and the manager Artur Malke.

While dedicated to historical performance, the members of the {oh!} do not forget to bring the music as close as possible to the audience. Detailed work on the individual elements of the pieces, with an emphasis on the importance of the music’s rhetorical dimension, results in concerts that aim not only at excellent communication between the performers, but most of all between the musicians and the listeners.

From the very first concert, this kind of communication has been noticed and appreciated by listeners, critics, invited soloists and the institutions supporting the orchestra, resulting in numerous invitations from major European festivals and concert halls, including Theater an der Wien, Opera de Dijon, the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Kölner Philharmonie, Bayreuth Baroque, Händel-Festspiele Halle, Bachfest Leipzig, and regular collaborations with NOSPR, Fryderyk Chopin National Institute, Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

Since 2015 {oh!} is resident artist of the International Early Music Festival “All’improvviso” in Gliwice, with which it regularly collaborates with on its own opera productions. So far the following operas have been premiered: D. Sarri Didone abbandonata (2014), J. A. Hasse Arminio (2016), L. Vinci Gismondo re di Polonia (2018) and G. F. Händel Il Pastor Fido (2019, a co-production with Händel-Festspiele Halle). The opera Gismondo, re di Polonia with the outstanding countertenor Max Emanuel Cencic in the title role, with the support from the Adam Mickiewicz Institute, was also performed at the Theater an der Wien in Vienna and at the P. Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow.

Since 2018, the ensemble has also regularly collaborated with the National Fryderyk Chopin Institute (NIFC), which focuses on the historical interpretation of Polish Romantic music, performing in the festival “Chopin and his Europe„ and in concerts and recordings organised by the NIFC.

{oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna has released 6 albums to date, including Concerto grosso — an émigré to the British Isles, released on the Belgian label MUSO, featuring previously unrecorded concerti grossi by Francesco Scarlatti, and its latest recording, a complete recording of Leonardo Vinci’s opera Gismondo, re di Polonia, released in 2020 by the Austrian label PARNASSUS.

Martyna Pastuszka

Martyna Pastuszka has been devoted to historical performance practice since 2001. After her graduation from the Academy of Music in Katowice in 2004, she developped further as a member of the Polish ensemble Arte dei Suonatori and through musical encounters with important artists such as Barthold Kuijken, Martin Gester, Stefano Montanari, Kati Debretzeni, Hidemi Suzuki, Rachel Podger, Eduardo Lopez Banzo, Andrew Parrott, Giuliano Carmignola and Konrad Junghänel.

She works currently as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician with Arte dei Suonatori (Poznań), Le Cercle de l’Harmonie (Paris), Le Concert Lorrain (Metz) and as concertmaster of Le Parlement de Musique (Strasbourg, since 2009) and Capella Cracoviensis (Kraków, since 2010).

In 2012, Martyna Pastuszka and the manager Artur Malke founded the ensemble {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, whose members are young musicians full of enthusiasm and commitment, with the wish to take the performance of classical music in Silesia to a whole new level and become ambassadors of culture for the region and all of Poland. She regularly performs for Hudební lahůdky as concert master of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna (Didone Abbandonata 2013–2015, planned project Arminio 2016), or as a member of the group Plaisirs de Musique (Three women – three fates 2015, the planned project Le Jardin des Plaisirs 2016).

She recorded multiple CDs and DVDs, including performances for Polish TV and the programmes Arte and Mezzo. Many of these recordíngs received acclaim of international music critics. Since 2007 she teaches Baroque Violin at the Academy of Music in Katowice.
